It was fun because this movie is obviously a way different tone than PLL. We have a lot of history as both friends and working with each other. Coming back to do something entirely new, we almost had to strip back the history at the beginning of the film. One speaker noted they've had nearly 20 years of friendship, though admitting he might be overstating the length. Giving a longtime acting partner a different script reveals new things about them. Watching those new qualities in Lucy felt aligned with the character and storyline, and traits present in their 20s had matured. The speakers said the film allowed more banter and playfulness than PLL, which they described as very serious.
