The song was never meant for this. Zara Larsson says her heart is heavy seeing that Midnight Sun got attached to an anti-immigration video from Trump's White House, and honestly the whole thing reads as dehumanizing to her because the people shown are real, including a guy in construction wear who is literally out there working. Undocumented people are regular folks with jobs just trying to build a better future, she points out. What gets her is that Midnight Sun is about feeling connected to nature, the universe, and people, and instead the video drives a massive divide between people. She wishes she could talk to whoever made it and remind them that we aren't that different, and neither are we different from the people in the video. The biggest gap between us, in her words, is the hand we were dealt. She calls her own life straight luck, being born in Sweden, having an education, getting to travel and have all these opportunities laid out for her, not some inherent superiority. Plenty of people out there weren't dealt that luck and just want a better life for their families. She doesn't get how being an undocumented immigrant could be treated as some terrible thing. Her verdict on the whole situation is blunt: so f**king uncool, and the people behind it are such f**king losers.
