The day after the midterms got ugly for the GOP, GOV. RON DeSANTIS was everywhere on CNN. TAPPER put the 2028 question to him and the answer was "I'll be a free man come Jan. 5th." Nothing planned yet, he said, but the night before ought to serve as a wakeup call for the party. Blasted into oblivion was his phrasing. Florida, in his telling, is the last one standing. On why a person seeks the office at all, his line was that you run because there's something you want to accomplish, not because you want to be somebody. By my count that's no fewer than four public media appearances in a single day, right after the wipeout. Some of that comes down to Florida being the one place that held the line. Two things he says he wants done inside the next two years: common sense wins on the domestic front, and proof laid out plainly for voters that Democrats won't be the thing they imagined.
