    Eric Kripke has shared that he received complaints from Elisabeth Shue herself after her character Madelyn Stillwell was killed off in The Boys. The showrunner explained that Shue had told him she was only interested in appearing for one season. He responded by confirming they would write her out at the end of that season. Once they did so, she approached him with the question of why he had chosen to kill her character. Kripke recalled replying that the decision stemmed directly from their contractual agreement. He added that had he realized there was flexibility and they did not need to remove her, he would have kept the character in the series. He described her as a great villain. Even now, she continues to give him a hard time, telling him she cannot believe he killed her off. His response remains one of disbelief at the situation.
