    Scottish Rite Freemason Cathedral vandalism

The Scottish Rite Freemason Cathedral in Indianapolis is under investigation by the Freemasons Fraternity after vandals left strange symbols and damaged property. Eric Vermeulen, director of the Indiana Masonic Home Foundation, was inside when it happened; he has worked there for 10 years and been around the building for 20, calling this the first time something on this scale occurred. The suspect offered to wait for police upon making their mark and was promptly arrested. Chris Hodapp, president of the Masonic Library and Museum, views the event as a sign of increasing global issues against the fraternity, attributing the rise to conspiracy theories amplified by the internet while stating the organization focuses on promoting good character regardless of religious or political leanings. A witness believed the act was a hate crime because the suspect claimed all Freemasons need to die, though IMPD has not yet determined if the incident will be investigated as a hate crime.
