Geoffrey Rush Pirates of the Caribbean

Johnny Depp's potential return in a sixth Pirates of the Caribbean project remains officially unconfirmed, even as producer Jerry Bruckheimer confirms early development on the next installment. Meanwhile, Geoffrey Rush has signaled openness to reprising Captain Hector Barbossa, provided the script avoids feeling like a cheap resurrection and actually delivers strong writing. The actor is adamant about not reversing the character's death scene from Dead Men Tell No Tales, where Barbossa sacrificed himself to save his daughter. Instead of undoing that moment for financial gain, Rush proposed bringing the captain back strictly as a ghost whose sole purpose is tormenting Jack Sparrow from beyond the grave. It raises the question of whether audiences prefer seeing Barbossa haunt the seas or leaving that final sacrifice untouched.
