This poor orphan is desperate to change her fate. She actually stole the belongings of the deceased girl, hoping to take over her identity so she can finally live the life she's always dreamed of. So she takes the letter of recommendation left by Rose's father, and travels to Bordeaux to find Mrs. Will. After seeing her old friend's handwritten letter, Mrs. Will accepts Annie without a second thought. Luckily she was looking for someone to read with her, so she asks Annie to read a passage from a novel. Thanks to her impressive reading skills, and the ability to read people that she learned from a hard life, Annie quickly earns Mrs. Will's trust. Just like that. She goes from being a homeless orphan to a high society lady overnight. Mrs. Will takes her to all kinds of social events, gives her beautiful clothes and a life of luxury, and for the first time Annie gets to live a life she never even dreamed of. But she never dares to show off too much because she knows everything she has was stolen. To keep her identity a secret she studies books about Switzerland ahead of time, trying to learn everything she can about Rose's hometown. When Mrs. Will's nephew starts questioning her, she can only rely on what she learned from those books to get by. Later when Mrs. Will takes her into the countryside to pick wild vegetables, Annie casually rattles off the names of several wild plants. This leaves Mrs. Will puzzled, because given Rose's privileged upbringing, there's no way she should know any of this. Annie has no choice but to claim that she loves nature, and once learned about these plants from a village woman. She then uses a Swiss folk dance she learned from a book to successfully distract Mrs. Will. Seeing the usually reserved Mrs. Will happily dancing with her on the grass, Annie feels for the first time that she might actually belong in this family, but that feeling doesn't last long. The fate of a young maid soon reminds her that she could lose everything at any moment. One night she finds Mrs. Will berating a young maid. It turns out the maid is pregnant. In a wealthy household like this that's considered a disgrace to the family. Mrs. Will shows no sympathy and throws the maid out that very night. Watching this Annie fears that her own secret could be exposed one day. She also realizes just how disconnected these wealthy people are from those struggling just to survive So she secretly leaves the maid A note from a Red Cross worker hoping that if she ever has nowhere else to turn she can go there for help But Annie worst nightmare finally comes true at a family gathering three months later Mrs. Will officially introduces Annie to her friends. In her heart Annie has already become family almost like her own daughter. But while Annie is passionately reading aloud, a mysterious figure suddenly appears in front of her. The moment Annie sees her face she faints from shock, because Rose, who was supposed to have died six months ago, is standing right there in front of her, alive. When Annie wakes up, she assumes her lie has been exposed. She's about to sneak away, only to find Mrs. Will waiting outside the door. Instead of suspecting Annie, she simply tells her to go back to her room and rest. Meanwhile, Rose is waiting for Mrs. Will in the dining room. When they meet, Rose immediately reveals her true identity, but Mrs. Will refuses to believe her. That very night, she throws Rose out of the house, but Mrs. Will's nephew Mike realizes something isn't right. He secretly takes Rose to a church for shelter, then returns to his aunt's house, and urges her not to jump to conclusions. He asks her to investigate and find out the truth, and all of this is overheard by Annie outside the door. Early the next morning, Annie rushes to the church to find Rose. She sincerely apologizes to Rose, explaining that she thought Rose was dead, and that's why she took her identity. Now that Mrs. Will sees her as family, she doesn't want to hurt her feelings, so Annie gives Rose all the spending money Mrs. Will had given her, and promises to send her money every month. All she asks is for Rose to agree to let her stay by Mrs. Will's side, but that's not what Rose wants at all. She angrily tells Annie that she never wanted money, she wants her identity and her life back. Just as Annie is about to leave and figure out what to do next, Rose suddenly grabs a piece of tableware and smashes it into her face. Annie covers her injured face and returns to Mrs. Will's house in shame. Luckily, the wound on her face isn't serious. But as Annie stares at the wound in the mirror, a crazy plan suddenly comes to her. She picks up a razor blade and drags it hard across the wound. What exactly does she plan to do with this wound? The answer will be revealed in the next episode.
