Día de Enero

Shakira penned "Día de Enero" as a direct address to Antonio de la Rúa, the son of Argentina's former president Fernando de la Rúa. The lyrics capture the couple's relationship during the intense public scrutiny and economic turmoil that gripped Argentina in 2001. Released on January 19, 2006, this soft rock ballad served as the third single from her sixth studio album Fijación Oral Vol. 1. Its acoustic arrangement, driven by guitar and subtle percussion, stands apart from the dance-heavy tracks elsewhere on the record.

Critics noted the song's clever songwriting and heartfelt delivery, often comparing Shakira's vocal performance to artists like Alanis Morissette and Natalia Lafourcade. The track reached number 7 on the US Latin Pop Airplay chart and peaked at number 29 on the Hot Latin Songs chart. In Argentina, the song achieved significant commercial success due to its specific cultural references. At the 2006 Latin Grammy Awards, the song received a nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance before losing to "La Trampa," another track from the same album. [düzenle]
